Sherry Harris was LGBTQ+ Victory Fund’s first ever endorsed candidate, supporting her in a race for a seat on the Seattle City Council. When she won, she became the first Black out lesbian elected in the United States and the first Black woman to serve on the Seattle City Council. She later helped found the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Caucus National League of Cities. While she lost her race for reelection, her victory inspired many future LGBTQ+ women of color to run for office in their communities.
